Fall Potluck Luncheon scheduled for Saturday, Oct. 21
The museum’s Fall Luncheon features the always popular potluck favorites, and an interesting program on the Tocobaga Memorial Monument.
Our guest speaker is Dr. Roger Block, a scholar and educator on local Native American culture. His talk brings to light how this beautiful sculpture in Indian Shores goes beyond historical accuracy to honorably display the humanity of the Tocobaga tribe
All are welcome! Just bring a dish to share. Beverages, plates and utensils are provided.
Join us on Saturday, Oct. 21,12 noon, at the museum, 203 Fourth Ave., IRB. Click here for flyer.
About those historical markers...
You may have encountered some of the historical markers that have been placed around town over the past few years. The intent is to help passers-by learn about the places that are significant in our local history.
The historical markers project is a joint effort of the historical society and civic group Action2000 (A2K).
Currently there are 12 signs, some celebrating historical places that still exist, and, sadly, some are sites that contain only memories of landmarks from the past. Click here for a map showing the locations.
Check out the A2K website for more information on the markers, as well as a suggested "Bike Tour" for those who may want to visit all the signs. (This is different from the cellphone Historic Walking Tour of the downtown area.)
